Authentic Linseneintopf Recipe 🇩🇪

Linseneintopf (German Lentil Stew) is a hearty and comforting dish, packed with protein-rich lentils, vegetables, and aromatic spices. Perfect for cold days, this traditional German recipe is both filling and full of flavor!

Ingredients:

✅ 1 cup dried lentils (brown or green, rinsed and drained)
✅ 1 onion (chopped)
✅ 2 cloves garlic (minced)
✅ 2 carrots (peeled and diced)
✅ 2 potatoes (peeled and diced)
✅ 1 leek (thinly sliced) (optional, for extra depth of flavor)
✅ 1 celery stalk (chopped)
✅ 1 liter vegetable or beef broth (adjust for consistency)
✅ 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or butter
✅ 2 bay leaves
✅ 1 teaspoon thyme (or marjoram, for an authentic touch)
✅ ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
✅ ¼ teaspoon black pepper
✅ 2 tablespoons vinegar (red wine or apple cider, for balance)
✅ 2 German sausages (such as Wiener or Bockwurst, sliced – optional but traditional)


Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

1️⃣ Rinse the lentils under cold water and drain well.
2️⃣ Peel and dice the carrots, potatoes, onion, and celery.
3️⃣ Mince the garlic and slice the leek.

Step 2: Cook the Base

4️⃣ Heat the vegetable oil or butter in a large pot over medium heat.
5️⃣ Add the onion, garlic, carrots, leek, and celery, and sauté for 5 minutes until softened.

Step 3: Simmer the Stew

6️⃣ Add the lentils, potatoes, broth, bay leaves, thyme, salt, and pepper to the pot.
7️⃣ Bring to a boil, then reduce to a gentle simmer and cook for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the lentils and vegetables are tender.

Step 4: Add the Final Touches

8️⃣ Stir in the vinegar for a touch of acidity. Adjust seasoning if needed.
9️⃣ If using sausages, add them in the last 10 minutes of cooking to warm through.
