Arepas de Queso are soft, cheesy, and delicious corn cakes, popular in Colombia and Venezuela. Made with cornmeal, cheese, and butter, they’re crispy on the outside and gooey inside—perfect for breakfast, a snack, or a side dish!

Ingredients (4 Servings – 8 Arepas):
✅ 2 cups pre-cooked cornmeal (masarepa, e.g., PAN brand) 🌽
✅ 1 ½ cups warm water 💧
✅ ½ tsp salt 🧂
✅ 1 tbsp butter, melted 🧈
✅ 1 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella or queso fresco) 🧀
✅ ½ cup milk (optional, for a softer dough) 🥛
✅ Oil or butter, for cooking 🛢️
Instructions:
Step 1: Make the Dough
1️⃣ In a large bowl, mix the cornmeal and salt.
2️⃣ Slowly add warm water, stirring with your hands until a smooth dough forms.
3️⃣ Knead for 3–5 minutes, then add melted butter and shredded cheese. Mix well.
4️⃣ If the dough feels too dry, add a little milk. If too sticky, add more cornmeal.
Step 2: Shape the Arepas
5️⃣ Divide the dough into 8 equal balls.
6️⃣ Flatten each ball into a round disc (about ½ inch thick, 4 inches wide).
Step 3: Cook the Arepas
7️⃣ Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat. Grease with butter or oil.
8️⃣ Cook each arepa for 5–6 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
Step 4: Serve & Enjoy!
9️⃣ Serve warm with butter, extra cheese, or avocado!
¡Buen provecho! 🇨🇴 🇻🇪
